President Donald Trump signed an executive order Thursday to keep TikTok alive in the U.S. – protecting American users with a deal that transfers control of its American operations away from China.

The details: Under this deal which values the company at $14 billion, a group led by Oracle, Silver Lake, and UAE’s MGX will hold a 45% stake in TikTok U.S. ByteDance will retain less than 20%.

National security & user safety: The new U.S. entity will control the algorithm — a key national security requirement. Oracle will retrain the system “from the ground up” and oversee cloud storage, ensuring no Chinese access.

• Vice President Vance said that under this deal, TikTok "data is going to be secure and it’s not going to be used as a propaganda weapon against our fellow citizens.”

Dealmaker: Trump credited Chinese President Xi Jinping for approving the deal, calling it “the support we needed to get this done properly.”

The numbers: TikTok has 170 million users in the United States.

Economic impact: According to a White House fact sheet, the deal “will generate $178 billion in economic activity in the U.S. over the next four years and sustain thousands of U.S. jobs and businesses.”

Back up: Last year, Congress passed –and Biden signed – the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act (PAFACA) that forces TikTok to be sold by its Chinese owners. President Trump has since delayed enforcement several times while negotiating the sale.

2028 vibe check: President Trump confirmed that Vice President Vance was “in charge” of this high-profile deal. In recent months, Trump has thrust Vance into the spotlight in ways that suggest to this casual observer that he is positioning him for a 2028 presidential run.

The last word goes to President Trump, who shared that "Charlie [Kirk] helped me a lot, too. And he said to me, 'You should go on TikTok,' and [as a result] we got record votes with the young voters.”

Comey indicted

Disgraced FBI Director James Comey has been indicted on two separate accounts related to lies and leaks he made during the Trump-Russia collusion hoax.

The details: On Thursday, the Justice Department handed down one count of making false statements and one count of obstruction of justice.

• A federal grand jury found that Comey lied under oath when he told Sen. Ted Cruz he never authorized leaks to the press. [We discussed this yesterday.]

• His deputy, Andrew McCabe, previously told investigators Comey did authorize him to leak to the press – a claim backed by a DOJ inspector general report.

The penalty: Comey could face up to five years in federal prison.

The timing: The indictment comes days before the five-year statute of limitations was set to expire on Comey’s September 2020 testimony.

• Many in the media suggest the last-minute effort showed Trump’s hasty desire to seek revenge. However, behind the scenes, Trump was still [8 years later] fighting the deep state swamp…

• According to reporting by Catherine Herridge [one of the most reliable and trustworthy reporters], the DOJ had the indictment "ready to go" but former U.S. attorney Erik Siebert was "blocking" or "slow walking" the charges.

• Trump finally removed him and replaced him with Interim US Attorney Lindsey Halligan.

What they’re saying:

• James Comey released a video that said: "I'm innocent. So let's have a trial." He disabled comments on his video.

• President Trump reacted to the indictment, writing on Truth Social: “HE LIED! It is not a complex lie, it’s a very simple, but IMPORTANT one. There is no way he can explain his way out of it. He is a Dirty Cop, and always has been.”

• Attorney General Pam Bondi wrote on X: “No one is above the law. Today’s indictment reflects this Department of Justice’s commitment to holding those who abuse positions of power accountable for misleading the American people. We will follow the facts in this case.”

Big picture: Comey is the first senior official indicted in connection with the Trump-Russia hoax – a case that hamstrung the first three years of his first term in office. The move validates Trump’s years-long claim of a “deep state” plot against him.
